Candles absorb your personal energy and can discharge that energy when burned. Be careful to handle your candles in the right frame of mind for the purpose they are meant for. You can increase the energy by making your own candles.  It is also recommended that you cleanse and anoint your candles with oil (for best results, during the waxing phase of the moon).

You can also use the heated tip of your athame to carve appropriate magickal symbols on your candles to increase spell or ritual energy. Candles should be used for one ritual or spell and allowed to burn out instead of being blown out to contain the energy.
